What is CFD Trading?

A Contract for Difference (CFD) is a financial derivative that allows traders to speculate on the price movements of an underlying asset without actually owning it. When you trade CFDs, you enter into a contract with a broker to exchange the difference in the asset's price from the time the contract is opened to when it is closed.

CFDs enable you to trade both rising and falling markets. If you believe the price will go up, you open a long (buy) position; if you expect the price to fall, you open a short (sell) position. Leverage amplifies both your potential gains and losses, making risk management essential.

What is a CFD?
A Contract for Difference (CFD) is a derivative product that allows you to trade on the price movement of an underlying asset without actually owning it. You profit or lose based on the difference between the opening and closing prices of your position.
What markets can I trade with CFDs?
On BITmarkets, you can trade CFDs on shares of major companies (Apple, Tesla, NVIDIA, etc.), global indices (S&P 500, NASDAQ 100, DAX 40, etc.), and commodities (Gold, Silver, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, etc.).
What is leverage in CFD trading?
Leverage allows you to open a position that is larger than your initial deposit. For example, with 1:10 leverage, a $1,000 deposit gives you $10,000 of market exposure. While leverage amplifies potential profits, it also amplifies potential losses.
What are the costs of CFD trading?
The main costs include the spread (difference between buy and sell price), overnight financing charges for positions held beyond the trading day, and commissions. All fees are transparently displayed in the instruments table above.
How do I manage risk when trading CFDs?
You can use stop-loss orders to automatically close positions at a predetermined loss level, take-profit orders to lock in gains, and monitor your margin level. Never risk more than you can afford to lose, and consider starting with smaller position sizes.

Can I trade CFDs on mobile?
Yes, you can trade CFDs through the BITmarkets mobile app available on iOS and Android. The app provides full access to all CFD instruments, real-time charts, and order management tools.
What is the minimum deposit for CFD trading?
The minimum deposit varies by instrument. Please check the specific requirements for each CFD instrument in the table above or contact our support team for detailed information.
