The Dogecoin (DOGE) project's developers have published a new upgrade for the core software that enhances security, performance, and user interface. Dogecoin Core 1.14.6 was released early on Thursday, and all network members were advised to upgrade to the current version. The new version includes various security patches, changes to the current charge structure, and several new features. Among the "breaking changes" are a modification in the setting of the wallet backup directory and a limit on the maximum number of addnode records. The number of addnodes has been limited to 800. The update contained an important change to DOGE's charge mechanism: dust limitations for all network members have been dropped from 1 DOGE to 0.01 DOGE.
The announcement delighted the Doge Army, with "Doge father" Elon Musk in particular tweeting: Upgrades! Billy Markus, the developer of Dogecoin, later posted the tale on Twitter, adding, "new version of Dogecoin core published." The update follows a recent surge of positive feeling in the Dogecoin community, which saw the introduction of memes to the Dogeverse, resulting in a large spike in network activity. As Whales continue to show interest, the network handled over 80,000 transactions in 24 hours on Wednesday, for the first time since May 2021.
